President Donald Trump was the most prominent proponent of the “birther” movement, a conspiracy theory that falsely questioned whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States and was therefore constitutionally eligible to serve. In fact, Obama was born, in 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Trump started his claims in 2011, long before having decided to run for presidency himself. On 30 April 2011, Obama addressed, in his speech, Trump’s false claim when the latter was present at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
First, Obama announced that the State of Hawaii had just released his official, long form, birth certificate (2:00). Funnily, he then promised to release, tonight, his “birth video”.
What he then showed was Simba’s birth scene of the 1994 animated picture The Lion King, including all the animals in Africas savanna bowing and greeting the newborn king (2:58). The footage displays, by the was, Obama’s correct birth date, 4 August 1961. So, the joke was carefully done.
We can see Trump’s face frozen in ice when the rest of the audience cheered and laughed.

Later, Obama mocked Trump personally. It’s amazing that Obama, in 2011, predicted “some change to the White House” if Trump would win the presidency (11:45). “His” new White House would be similar to what Trump actually did, e.g. to the Oval Office, a gilded abomination. One must by fair to concede that even Trump seems to laugh about that.
Nobody has forgotten, in particular not Donal Trump, that he was humiliated by Barack Obama at the WH Correspondents’ Dinner on 30 April 2011.
On Friday last week, he posted on his platform Truth Social a clip about another conspiracy theory, how his election in 2020 was prevented by evil forces of the far left which contained, at the very end, two seconds of AI generated content, Barack and Michelle Obama dancing and singing as apes.
The clip has meanwhile been deleted and Trump has claimed that he had not been aware of the offensive two seconds at the end. As he was not responsible, he would not apologize.
It turned out somewhat later that the frames (the Obamas as apes) were taken from a separate video, previously circulated by an influential conservative meme maker. It shows Trump as “King of the Jungle” and depicts a range of Democratic leaders as animals, including Joe Biden, who is white, as a jungle primate eating a banana. Singing, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.
Most of the dingy content has meanwhile disappeared from the internet, fortunately. It seems to be clear that Trump’s humiliation at Correspondents’ Dinner in 2011 by President Obama had left a lasting effect on Trump, a narcissistic injury. At that time Obama had already earned his Nobel Peace Prize, and soon thereafter (in 2012), the European Union would get the Peace Prize, too.
So, all global politics at the moment, as chaotic as it is perceived, seems to depend on a narcissistic and childlike President. Very remarkable.
