Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) has reported yesterday on a literal bombshell. The story was based
“…on 12 central sources at the top of the Danish government, the Armed Forces and central sources in our closest allied countries in Europe, whom DR has spoken to since Donald Trump’s statements about Greenland in December 2024.” (Translated by GoogleTranslate).
According to DR, the information was confirmed by at least two, but typically significantly more, independent sources. These sources assessed that the situation around Greenland remains so tense and sensitive that they can only speak anonymously. DR has also verified the information with other sources who have had insight into parts of the process.
After US President Donald Trump had threatened Denmark to take Greenland “the hard way” several times early in January 2026, this alerted not only the small Scandinavian country with its enormous icy colony in the north but also European allies. On 15 January, Operation Arctic Endurance was launched, a Danish-led military exercise and presence operation in Greenland, officially a Nato mission. Initially, France, Germany and Sweden sent a limited number of soldiers but more Nato member states soon deployed personell as well. The operation is still underway.
What DR now reports is that Denmark prepared to sabotage runways in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq by placing explosives. They also flew blood supply to Nuuk.
The fifteen German soldiers were abruptly withdrawn on 18 January after just 44 hours, conceivably on direct order of the chancellery in Berlin, i.e. Friedrich Merz. But that was never confirmed.
The withdrawal coincided with US President Donald Trump threatening to impose 10% to 25% tariffs on European countries (including Germany, Denmark, France and UK) and described their presence on Greenland as a “dangerous game”.
But did Trump even know about the real purpose of the “exercise”?
Probably not as more pressure (behind the scene) by European leaders led to his partial buckle as regards a forceful takeover of Greenland when speaking at the Word Economic Forum in Davos on 26 January 2026.
…
I have long held that Europe must gradually define its own half hemisphere, the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, UK, Benelux, France, Germany. Others may join if willing to work hard on democracy, economic and military independence, rule of law. With France and the UK, we’d have two nuclear powers involved, for deterrence purposes and such. It would be most important to get Canada onboard as well.
Securing the Davis Strait/Baffin Bay is a priority. And the Baltic states. Kicking the Russians out of Svalbard.
Forget the Ukraine. It was lost to Putin long ago due to ineffectual support by European. Trump won’t care about the Ukrainians.
Forget Iran. It is hopeless after Trump’s and Netanyahu’s war of aggression. We don’t import oil or gas from the region and must instead welcome high oil and gas prices. Europe must instead focus on the transformation of the society towards climate neutrality.
Forget Taiwan. It will be taken over by China anyway. Trump doesn’t care.
Do not hope that things will change once the mid-term election took place. Expect things will get worse.
