Why is everyone so desperate to get the Strait of Hormuz open as it was before the US American/Israeli war of choice against Iran? Why can’t measured World leaders see the big advantage, a chance to finally (and actually almost too late) free us from deadly dependence on corrupt Gulf monarchies with regard to oil and gas?

Just consider practicing much more cognitive dissonance reduction. I suppose shutting down the choke point in the Middle East for oil and gas would actually be the best for our serious attempts to address climate change, if there are any.

A radical turn, not whiny insistence without alternative due to (as discussed mainly in hopelessly backward Germany) low wind speeds, low sunlight (in the dark months of wintertime), lack of charging stations, ugly wind turbines, and whatnot?

Iran may actually do us a big favour. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps released the above map on May 5 which had been misinterpreted by most western politicians. Although, in the beginning, fears were spread by Iranian spokespersons Iran could keep the Strait of Hormuz closed “forever”. But that actually applied to hostile vessels only.

While a senior IRGC advisor declared the strait closed to enemies on March 2, two days after the coordinated “decapitation” strike by US/Israeli forces, a de-facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was established since mid-March when Iran had claimed that sea mines had been deployed. They probably never were.

Moreover, the strait was actually never “closed” (maybe only after President Donald Trump attempted a naval counter-blockade for Iranian ports on April 13). Iran does not prevent all ships from passing the Strait, but rather implemented a system where passage is restricted for countries involved in the aggression against Iran and allowed for others.

Despite that, few cruising ships, tankers etc. have actually passed.

Without having opened the strait, President Trump will be seen as a complete loser. When he tried to break the blockade by force in his Project Freedom last week, he was reined in probably by Gulf Allies.

There are not so many viable solutions to the problem left if Trump doesn’t want to accept Iran’s counter-proposal for a peace deal.

Ground offensive. No longer, I assume, after the US’s experience on Easter south of Isfahan.

Nuking Tehran. Xi Jinping will surely talk him out of it during his visit to Beijing today.

Leave and declare victory. This has been discussed intensively over the past few weeks, as Trump has lost interest and must now turn his attention to new goals: Cuba, Greenland (once more), FIFA Worldcup, 4th of July, … Arrgh! Midterms.

Less kerosene means fewer flights and less carbon dioxide. Less oil and gas means meeting urgent demands for more renewables. Less plastic, less naphtha, urea: shortages for all kinds of materials we were used to use.

So, man has to adapt to a rapidly changing world. New adversaries, new alliances. New challenges, new opportunities. Climate change minimizer have long suggested the human species, intelligent as he is, can easily adapt to rising temperatures. He probably can’t even.

We rather need to adapt to shortages in a finite world. A greener world.
