The Discredited Committee In Oslo

UPDATE BELOW.

With a completely failed attempt to fend off the brazen pressure from an American president to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, the long discredited Committee in Oslo had screwed up big time once more last year. The 2005 Laureate, Columbian far-right opposition politician in hiding, Maria Corina Machado made her way to Oslo after she had left Venezuela in December 2025 through irregular routes in a covert operation.

She missed the ceremony but, after “her” president, on Donald Trump’s directive was abducted in a military operation on 3 January 2026 (another coup d’état the Americans are so famous for), she offered the genocidal (P)resident in the White House (how often has he threatened to annihilate the Iranian civilization?) her award for which he so desperately longed. Trump “accepted” the Nobel medal, of course.

I had written last year, just before the scandalous Nobel Committee’s announcement, that only if the Committee had courage, it would have awarded the then “dismantled” (the withdrawal of any funding) USAID (United States Agency for International Development). USAID was once the world’s largest foreign aid agency. The accelerator of entropy in the White House had ordered a near-total freeze on all foreign aid.

As USAID may in essence be dead (as are 4000+ Ebola victims and innumerable people suffering from AIDS in Africa) I am afraid that the Nobel Committee in Oslo will just move on (no award for already deceased individuals) and announce another questionable decision today at 11 UTC+2.

UPDATE 9 October 2026 @ 16:21 UTC+2

The Peace Price went to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, today a judge at the International Court of Justice. Her credentials undisputed, for Israel it must be a shock since she calls what the pariah state has done to Gaza a genocide, and right so.

Notwithstanding, The Nobel Prize committee in Oslo does itself no favors by honoring such controversial figures instead of organizations: Obama, who introduced drone warfare. Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi. And Machado last year—which was surely a disastrous choice.

If this proves difficult in a year marked by wars, crises, the climate, Trump, Putin, Netanyahu, Iran, Gaza, etc., perhaps it is time to pause and reconsider Alfred Nobel’s will.

The responsibility borne by Oslo is immense. Machado’s nomination last year was meant to hurt impudent Trump but direly backfired. Also this year’s choice seems to be political.

What about simply not awarding a prize?
