After yesterday’s post about President Trump threatening Iran with hitting it very hard, his plans to take Kharg island once more, and even mentioning nukes, he abruptly backpedaled, canceled his plans and announced,
Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly.

Then Elon Musk’s SpaceX officially went public, with shares debuting on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SPCX. It is the largest initial public offering (IPO) in Wall Street history. The successful launch made Elon Musk the first trillionaire. Hard to imagine what a new, possibly nuclear, attack on Iran would have had on Nasdaq and the global economy. Weasle-like Trump was fully aware of the fall-out (literally and metaphorically).
Well, a few hours later, Trump changed his mind again. After Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, had weighed in and had asked the media to refrain from speculations about the content of the Memorandum of Understanding to be finalized, Trump posted in the afternoon,
“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith. AMAZING! Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Dishonest people everywhere! Well, the Iranians are well-advised not to trust Donald Trump at all. The entire last 24 to 48 h were probably just dedicated to his ex-buddy(?) Elon Musk’s successful big day.
By abruptly de-escalating military tensions with Iran right before the launch, Trump created a highly favorable, “risk-on” environment that maximized investor appetite for the historic $75 billion debut.
Probably Trump intentionally manipulated market sentiment once again to protect the SpaceX IPO. Canceling the strikes and claiming a comprehensive peace deal was ready triggered a massive relief rally on Wall Street, cooling oil prices and boosting the Nasdaq exactly as SpaceX built its electronic order book.
